1. Project & Competent Person
Project Information
Identifying details for the building and the competent person certifying compliance.
Report Prepared By
The competent person preparing this assessment, per Regulation A19 of the National Building Regulations.
2. Location & Occupancy
Site Location
Start typing a town — energy zone, province, coordinates and SCCP status fill in automatically (389 towns from Annex C).
Occupancy Classification
Determines the energy targets (Table 1 & 2) and lighting / hot-water requirements.
Storeys & floor areas
Net floor areas within the building envelope. Add a storey for each level (default is a single ground storey). Rename a level for basements, mezzanines, etc. Used for lighting density, energy targets and the fenestration ratio per storey.
| Storey name | Livable area (m²) | Other areas (m²) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total net floor area | 0 | 0 |
5.1 Orientation & 5.2 Shading
Building should face N-E, N or N-W for winter solar gain (except Zone 5H, which uses prevailing winds).
3. Lighting Power Density
6.2 Lighting Power Density
Aggregate connected lighting load ÷ net floor area must not exceed the Table 12 limit for the occupancy.
| Description / area | Power (W) | Qty | Hrs/day | Sub-total (W) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Total connected lighting load | 0 | ||||
4. Hot Water Supply
XA2 / 6.1 Hot Water Supply
At least 50% (volume) of annual average hot-water heating shall be by means other than electrical resistance heating.
5. Air Conditioning
6.3 Air Conditioning (Table 13)
Minimum coefficient of performance for unitary & packaged equipment. Leave blank if not applicable.
6. External Walls
5.5 External Walls
Pick your wall construction — compliance is determined automatically against Table 6 (heavy ≥270 kg/m²) or Table 7 (light <270 kg/m²) for this energy zone.
7. Floors
5.4 Floors
Suspended floor in the envelope: Zones 1,2,6,7 → R 1.5; Zones 3,4,5,5H → R 1.0. Underfloor heating → min R 1.0. Slab on ground with no heating has no R-value requirement.
8. Roof & Ceiling Assembly
5.6 Roof & ceiling assembly (Table 8)
Build the whole roof element. The roof type sets the base R of the cladding, air space, ceiling and air films; then add insulation and (optionally) reflective foil. Total R-value, compliance and the thickness needed update automatically. Minimum total R is 3.7 m²K/W (2.7 for Zone 5H).
9. Fenestration
5.3 Fenestration Designer (Table 4)
Add each window/door by storey, orientation, size and glazing type. The tool computes the area-weighted U-value & SHGC per storey, checks N/E facades (5.3.4) and S facades (5.3.5) separately, and tells you exactly what to change if non-compliant. Shading (clause 5.2.2): enter the overhang projection P and height H (see Figure 4) — the tool checks P ≥ H × multiplier and applies the relaxed SHGC limit when shaded. Net floor area per storey comes from the Location tab.
| Storey | Orient. | Ref | Qty | W (m) | Ht (m) | Area | Glazing type | U | SHGC | P (m) | H (m) | Shaded? |
|---|
10. Sky Lights
5.3.8 Roof Lights / Skylights (Table 5)
≤1.5% of served floor area = any solution. Above that, U-value & SHGC limits tighten with ratio. Leave blank if there are no skylights.
11. Building Sealing
5.7 Building Sealing
Confirm sealing measures (informational checklist).

This report is a design-stage guideline tool. SANS 10400-XA:2021 and the National Building Regulations always take precedence. Generated for the competent person's assessment — not a substitute for certified thermal calculation software where clause 4.2/4.3 routes are used.
